Sad Band News!

We’re very sad to announce that following our upcoming gigs in April and our appearance at the Ely Folk Festival in July our colleague, friend and “Chairman of The Magpie Arc Board”, Martin Simpson, will be leaving the band.

Martin has exciting new solo plans afoot and wishes to devote all his professional time and energy into seeing those through to fruition over the next few years.

He’s kindly given us a good few months notice though so we’d be delighted if you’d join us somewhere on the April gig trail to make each of the shows one to remember and help us bid him farewell.

We’re returning to Gateshead, Sheffield and Exeter and coming to Oxford, South Petherton and Bath for the very first times and all details are at the live page of our website here…

The Magpie Arc April Gig Info And Ticket Links

We’ll be in touch soon about future plans, including our new album which will be released in the autumn but in the meantime we’ll see you out there on tour soon.

Our Annual Burns Night Charity Fundraising Song!

So, it’s that time of year again where throughout the world on January the 25th men in ill-fitting kilts and highland dress (like our Findlay and Alex) discover their inner Scotsman and expound amateur-dramatically about haggis, mice, excise men and Tam O’Shanter and his trusty steed Meg in celebration of the great Robert Burns.

AND it’s also the time where we offer our version of Robert Burns beautiful song Ae Fond Kiss as a download single on Bandcamp for Β£1.25 or pay what you wish with 100% of the proceeds going to an excellent cause.

This year we’ll be sending the money to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation set up by the late Doddie Weir, the instantly recognisable, larger than life Scottish international rugby player after his diagnosis with Motor Neuron Disease which seeks to support sufferers, aid research and increase the awareness of this devastating and as yet incurable illness.

A huge amount of you have supported this already by buying the single in past years but if you can see your way to spreading the word about it or buying it as an email gift via Bandcamp for someone you love music with then that would be amazing.

Here’s the link now….

Thanks everyone!
